Discord doesnt allow me to join

hello
I joined the discord a while back just to read the Halloween announcements.
Now when I try to join via the link on the forum page on the bottom right it wont accept my password.

I am receiving email to my linked account so I am sure it is the correct email but I am unable to proceed past the
" claim your account".
Also there is no where for me to make a NEW password if that is the problem.
I just wanted to look at some pictures that mistertoken posted but it has been an exercise in frustration to log back in.

Hi Yamp,

I'm assuming you are using the desktop version, if not you can download the Linux version from here.
Try to log in from the desktop version first, if that does not work. Reset your password at this link.

Once inside the discord app, at the bottom left, click the (+) to add a server

Then paste in this URL https://discord.gg/RT8CSu

You should be able to join like that
