1.7 and Recent Downtime

EDIT #2: There is a 1.7 build of Bukkit available, except that it is not fully compatible with the new content. All new content is blacklisted, meaning that no 1.7 blocks are attainable or usable in any way. We are waiting for a less-buggy build which supports all of the new blocks before we update.

EDIT #1:
Turns out that our current configuration for Survival (the barebones setup) turns every single tree in the roofed forest in to a regular tree. Looks like its going to be a bit longer folks.

As most of you are well aware, 1.7 is due to come out today.
Although, our server setup may not be.

We recommend that you do not update, to ensure that you can still play.
Although, Mojang's new launcher allows players to easily downgrade, and so staying on 1.6.4 isn't of paramount importance.

For us to update to 1.7 successfully, we rely on many factors.
  1. Bukkit must update.
Normally, this happens within the first week of the release, although it can take longer.
  2. Our fork of Bukkit must be updated.
While we can just use the base Bukkit project to update, it is much safer and better for early performance if we wait.
  3. Plugins must be updated.
Not all plugins have to be updated, although many do.
Plugins that don't use the Bukkit API are affected by Bukkit's changing versioning, and are broken once a new major update is released. This issue is normally fixed the day of, or the day after Bukkit is released.
  4. Worlds must be properly set up.
We must ensure that the spawns and protections are still properly functioning, and skipping this step can result in mass griefing or broken shops/functions.
We will announce when the servers are updated to 1.7, but you can always ping the server and check it.

Point Two:
Many of you may have noticed that we had some downtime yesterday.
This is because of a recent datacenter transfer we did.
The transfer to this new datacenter should not affect regular users, although it does benefit us behind the scenes. Although the benefits outweigh the cons, this transfer is costing us an extra $100 a month.
To compensate for this, we will be bringing out new servers in the near future. Stay tuned.

Just in response of you suggesting we don't update, with the new launcher it actually doesn't matter because it is so easy to use an older version .

just in case people wanted to play around with single player 1.7

Bliv pretty much said the same thing, telik.
